Mrs. Susan Ellard
I am a nontraditional educator. I am not the person that always had dreams of becoming a teacher. I have a non-educational 4 year degree and I worked in the medical field for almost ten years. During that time, I realized that I am more of a people person than a paper and pencil person. I also became a mom twice. I stayed home while my children were young. I read to them, had conversations with them, and immersed them in print rich environments at an early age.
Once my oldest child headed to first grade, I was offered an assistant teacher position at KLE and the rest is history. Watching students grow and become active participants in their education is an amazing process. I also just enjoy taking the time to ensure that students know they are important and have a special place in this world we live in. I was an assistant for five years and decided I wanted to be a certified teacher. I went back to college and received my B.S. in Elementary Education with concentrations in science and history. I also have biology and special education certifications.
I have taught developmentally delayed three and four year olds, second grade, third grade math, sixth grade science and finally sixth grade ELA. Teaching is not for the faint of heart. In fact, it is a daunting task to be asked to mold the lives of students. Students deserve an education. but they also must learn to work hard and earn that education. My wish is for every student to realize their self-worth and work toward a life of excellence.
